A Hamden, Connecticut public school employee resigned after she was captured on camera cursing and hurling racial slurs at a Black man in an East Haven ShopRite on Friday.
In the video that was per usual captured on cell phone cameras and later circulated online, a white woman later identified as Corinne Terrone can be seen using racist slurs towards a black man at the local ShopRite, ultimately calling the man the N-word multiple times while spitting at him during the altercation.
All the more disturbing is that Terrone’s young children were standing alongside her in the market, while it was soon revealed that she was also employed within the Hamden school system. Meanwhile, with respect to the influence of social media regarding brazen and unabashed racism in public settings, the pressure was soon put on the school system to force the woman to resign.
“The language the employee used in the video is in conflict with the values of the Hamden Public School System," the district’s statement said. “Someone who will use that sort of language in any setting, whether public or private, is not someone we want anywhere near our children. The employee is separated from service, and we hope that her children will receive the support they need after witnessing such a traumatic event."
Meanwhile, in a joint statement, the Mayor and Council President condemned Terrone’s actions, calling her behavior “vile and shocking,” while thanking the school system for their quick and decisive action in regards to her termination.
