On Thursday, Beto O’Rourke, who rose to political prominence in last year’s Senate race in Texas, announced his decision to run for president in the 2020 election.
According to CNN, he said, “This is a defining moment of truth for this country and for every single one of us. The challenges that we face right now, the interconnected crises in our economy, our democracy, and our climate have never been greater. They will either consume us, or they will afford us the greatest opportunity to unleash the genius of the United States of America.”
Many of you may remember that last year Beto lost the race to Republican Sen. Ted Cruz, nonetheless, the race caused many big names to show their support for Beto, including Beyoncé who is a Texas native.
He also received support from our Forever President Barack Obama, who called him an “impressive young man who ran a terrific race.”
Beto told CNN that the 2020 campaign has “got to be about the big things that we hope to achieve and enact and do for one another.”
Bernie Sanders, Cory Booker and Kamala Harris have also announced their run for president.
