Former UCLA and Sacramento Kings basketball player Tyler Honeycutt has died following a shootout with LAPD on Friday night.
According to sources, Honeycutt allegedly shot at the officers, who shot back. There was no evidence that he had been wounded by the police, and that he died due to a self-inflicted gun-shot wound.
A family member on Saturday confirmed to KABC that Honeycutt had tragically died.
Honeycutt, 27, allegedly trapped himself inside a Sherman Oaks home on Friday. Police came to the scene after his mother called to say Honeycutt was acting erratically.
According to LAPD, no officers were injured during the incident. Several residents in the area had been evacuated as a precaution.
Honeycutt played for the UCLA Bruins from 2009 to 2011. He was a second-round pick by the Kings in the 2011 NBA draft and played in 24 games over two seasons before continuing his professional career overseas.
No further information has been released in regards to the incident.
