Police have charged a 13-year-old suspect with murder for the stabbing death of a Fort Worth teenager.
Anntoinette Carter said that the suspect and her daughter, 14-year-old Nylah Lightfoot, were friends, and they asked to have a sleepover at their home. When she said no, the friend asked Lightfoot to come over and collect her clothes.
KDFW reported that 14-year-old Nylah was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital after police responded to a call shortly before 3:30 a.m. Tuesday morning at the Sycamore Center Villas in south Fort Worth.
She was pronounced dead from stab wounds to the neck and chest upon arrival, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office. The incident happened after the two girls had a verbal altercation that escalated into a fight that the victim initially won. The suspect then retaliated by stabbing her to death.
Her mother added that at least one adult in the house stood by and watched the deadly fight.
“Now I’m daughterless,” Carter said. “And my heart feels like it’s just been ripped out and stomped on.”
