Wendy Williams was pushed to tears during Monday morning’s episode of her eponymous talk show while she spoke on R. Kelly‘s controversial allegations involving underage girls.
The daytime talk host brought Kelly up during the “Hot Topics” segment of her show on Monday, May 7. Much of the focus of her monologue was on criticizing the willingness of parents who bring their kids into the industry, only to “unleash” them to older men like Kelly who have questionable reputations.
Williams divulged that she has had at least one in-depth conversation with the R&B star, during which he revealed a number of facts about his life that she says she vows to take to the grave. But the daytime gossip queen was willing to open up about one tidbit she claims to have been personally informed about by Kelly himself. He is illiterate.
“It has long been said but he actually did admit this to me … I was shocked that he actually admitted this to me. He can’t read, he can’t write, and he can’t add. I won’t tell you what he said about how he maneuvers through the world and things like that but the idea that people are surrounding you and someone wouldn’t put you in school…,” she said.
Williams then proceeded to circle back to the responsibility of parents, inferring that many of the claims against him are coming from those who dropped the ball when it came to their kid’s safety. “I can’t understand not knowing how to read, write, or add and I don’t understand parents who unleash their kids,” she said.
