Jonathan Jackson was shot dead Wednesday evening in the West Side Homan Square neighborhood, according to Chicago Police.
The 27-year-old was in a van with his family, about to close the door to the vehicle, when a blue sedan pulled up and a person wearing a ski mask stepped out and opened fire at 9:18 p.m. in the 1100 block of South Independence, police said.
The man was shot in the abdomen. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.
The person in the ski mask got back into the blue sedan and drove away from the scene, police said.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office hasn’t confirmed the death.
Area North detectives were investigating the shooting as a homicide.
