John Heard, best known for playing the father in the Home Alone movies, had at least seven types of prescription drugs in his system when he died of a heart attack on July 21 at the age of 71.
Heard’s maid found him dead of a heart attack in a Palo Alto, California hotel last summer. TMZ says Heard had Tramadol, Oxycodone, Oxymorphone, Xanax, Buprenorphine, Fentanyl and Hydromorphone in his system.
Two days before his death, Heard had back surgery. It is reported that those drugs are commonly used to alleviate pain. It was also noted that authorities tried to revive him using Narcan, which is commonly used to counter the effects of an overdose. Origionally, the medical examiner stated that Heard died of a heart attack from heart disease. They did not state whether or not drugs were a contributing factor.
However, RadarOnline reports that the Santa Clara ME’s office told them Heard didn’t accidentaly overdose. They confirm he died of a heart attack. Heard passed just 6 months after his 22-year-old son Max. Radar reports no cause of death was released for his son.
