A woman was fatally shot Saturday morning at Parkside East Apartments in Sterling Heights. The victim was found at the apartment complex near Van Dyke and 18 1/2 Mile Road. The family identified the victim as Kiah Hopson.
Two years ago, Hopson reached her goals of becoming a nurse. She enjoyed her profession as she worked hard to reach her goals. Hopson was excited to move into her own apartment in August as family members described her as independent and strong.
She was the one who finished nursing school first, out of everybody, all of her friends are in nursing school, she set the tone, said Shantiec, Hopson’s best friend. She was 22 years old when became a nurse, she worked very hard, said Shantiec.
Hopson lived in an apartment complex in Sterling Heights, a suburb outside of Detroit. Neighbors described the complex as a relatively safe and quiet area. On Saturday morning, Hopson was found dead in the apartment complex as someone gunned her down.
This is a very safe community. I’ve lived here for 18 years and nothing like this has ever happened. I know there is a lot of stuff on Facebook, but Sterling Heights is very safe, this complex is very safe and the police responded immediately, Terri Groth said to Fox 2 News.
Kiah Hopson’s closest family and friends said they are still trying to process the fact that someone murdered her. To their knowledge, Hopson had no enemies. She was a young lady that was driven and focused on improving her life.
She was hurt outside of her home, she wasn’t out a club, she wasn’t pulling up to a guy’s house, She was at her home. When you think of home, you think of safety, said Shantiec to WXYZ News.
Sterling Heights police said they don’t have any leads and they’re asking for the public’s help to get tips.
