A Pennsylvania woman says she went online to check her electric bill and was stunned at the amount — more than $284 billion.
“My eyes just about popped out of my head,” Horomanski, 58, told the Erie Times-News. “We had put up Christmas lights and I wondered if we had put them up wrong.”
There was nothing wrong with the bulbs — the mistake involved the invoice from Penelec power company.
After a phone call to report the blunder, Horomanski’s bill was adjusted to reflect the correct payment of $284.46.
“I can’t recall ever seeing a bill for billions of dollars,” Penelec spokesman Mark Durbin told the Morning Call. “We appreciate the customer’s willingness to reach out to us about the mistake.”
The energy company can add another tip to its online tip brochure called “More than 100 ways to improve your electric bill.”
Putting the decimal point in the right place when the bill is prepared is a good place to start.
