THE mom of a schoolboy whose heartfelt video about bullying went viral says photos she posted of her kids with a Confederate flag was “meant to be funny”.
Distressed Keaton Jones, from Knoxville, Tennessee, was filmed by mum Kimberly as he cried over classmates pouring milk on him and putting ham down his shirt.
Despite initial support from stars across the globe, his mum was soon accused of being “racist” when pictures of Keaton and his family were shared online, showing them holding a Confederate flag with the caption: “I stand for the flag”.
Speaking to ABC today, Kimberly said: “It was meant to be funny, ironic and extreme.
“I am genuinely, truly sorry. If I could take it back I would.”
Kimberly was then slammed by MMA fighter Joe Schilling who accused her of asking “what happened to us whites sticking together?” when he criticised her for “using her son as a platform”.
He claimed she turned down the chance for her son to be flown to LA for a match – and asked him to promote her GoFundMe account instead.
Kimberly’s daughter furiously denied the claims – telling her Twitter followers the family have not received any money and alleged a “fake” Instagram account was used to contact Schilling.
