Anthony Ross, 45, is accused of shooting his 38-year-old estranged wife, Iris Ross, their 10-month-old daughter, Anora, and their 11-year-old son, Nigel, before exchanging gunfire with police on Christmas Day. Police eventually took Ross into custody.
Before the tragic killing spree, Ross appeared to be a happy and a loving father while filming the video with his son.
“I’m smiling and hanging out with Nigel on Christmas Eve, and we’re about to embarrass ourselves,” Ross says. “We’re gonna sing!”
The pair then launch into a duet of “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town.” They wrap up the video by wishing everyone “Merry Christmas!”
Ross allegedly attacked an officer multiple times after barricading himself inside the home. Court documents list the Phoenix apartment complex as Ross’ home. Police also pleaded with him to let the children leave the home, but when they sent a robot camera inside, they were already dead.
At 4pm police also saw Iris’ body on the patio. Neighbors told police they saw Ross shoot his ex-wife as she tried to run away from him. They later heard two or three more gunshots from inside the home, according to court documents obtained by ABC 15.
Iris’ sister, Mary Wogas, said she received a chilling text message from Ross on Christmas afternoon.
“I received a text yesterday about 2:52 p.m. Two messages, first one saying, ‘I just killed Iris and the kids.’ The second message was, ‘with a gun,’” said Wogas.
“I knew that man was very unstable. I knew he had a very, very dark side. I didn’t know it was this dark,” she said, adding that he that he struggled with depression.
He is currently being held and charged with first-degree-murder.
