A jury on Thursday convicted superstar rapper Nicki Minaj’s brother of repeatedly raping his 11-year-old stepdaughter on Long Island.
Jelani Maraj, 38, was found guilty of predatory sexual assault on a child – a felony – and endangering the welfare of a child. He faces up to life in prison, but Maraj’s lawyer says he plans to appeal.
The victim, testified that she was repeatedly assaulted by Maraj. She later discussed the details of the assaults, including Maraj instructing her on ways to make anal sex less painful and using lubrication during the assaults.
The victim’s brother, who was just eight years old at the time, testified that he caught Maraj on top of his sister and was slapped and threatened by Maraj afterwards.
Throughout the trial, jurors heard testimony from the vitcim and her 10-year-old brother, who was 8 when he allegedly walked in on Maraj raping his sister in the basement of their home. Disturbing details reveal that Maraj allegedly taught the victim how to make anal sex less painful and blamed the child for the attacks. He allegedly told her she would be taken from her mother if she came forward.
Maraj’s team alleges the victim’s mother and his ex-wife, Jacqueline Robinson, told her daughter to lie in order to extort millions from Maraj’s famous sister. It was rumored that Minaj would take the stand, but she did not.
