Former Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz was released by the Chicago Bears on Friday, according to multiple reports.
Although it took a while, Cruz eventually found a new home in The Windy City, signing with the Chicago Bears. And by all accounts, things seemed to be going well for Cruz, who acclimated to the locker-room and appeared well-liked by his teammates.
However, Cruz hauled in only six receptions for 28 yards and one touchdown during the preseason, and apparently that wasn’t enough for Chicago.
In a somewhat unexpected move, it was announced on Friday that the Bears have released Cruz, once again making him a free agent.
Although the deck seemed stacked against Cruz from the start, he was hoping to make the most of his second- and third-team practice reps and allow his strong resume to do the rest of the talking.
Unfortunately for the veteran, a knee injury may have ultimately done him in.
Whether or not Cruz finds another opportunity in the NFL remains to be seen, but in the event his playing career is over, he’ll likely have plenty of options in his post-football career. He’s extremely engaging and does good work on camera, and could also find a job in the fashion industry.
