Former Miss Kentucky USA Accused of Smuggling Drugs into Prison

Former Miss Kentucky Kia Hampton has been accused of smuggling marijuana to a inmate at an Ohio prison. She was crowned Miss Kentucky for the Miss USA pageant in 2010.
The New York Daily News reports Hampton entered the Allen Correctional Facility in May while officers gathered enough evidence to have a warrant for a cavity search. The officers listened to a series of recorded phone calls.

fficers questioned Hampton at the prison and she pushed out a white balloon from her pants leg. Hampton attempted to smuggle 2.82 grams of marijuana into the prison. The marijuana was for inmate Jeremy Kelly.

Hampton was arrested and indicted this month. Officers charged her with illegal conveyance of drugs of abuse onto the grounds of a specified governmental facility. The charge is a third degree felony and Hampton faces a three year prison sentence.

Her next trial date is set for July 26 where she will be arraigned in Allen County.
