50 Cent Faces $200 Million Lawsuit Over His Show ‘Power’

Say it ain’t so, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson was already dealing with filing for bankruptcy, and now the media mogul is being hit with a lawsuit over his Starz series Power. According to TMZ an author named Larry Johnson is suing 50 for allegedly stealing his idea.

Johnson claims that the manuscript he wrote, “Tribulation of a Ghetto Kid,” is a carbon copy of 50′s Starz show. Johnson handed the manuscript to Nikki Turner at G-Unit Books in 2005, according to reports. The manuscript was eventually published by another publisher however, Johnson believes that Nikki showed the manuscript to 50 and wants to be paid.

He states that premise is of Power is the same as his book, a drug dealer who is trying to become legit. Johnson continues to say that the the main character in Power, “Ghost,” has the same physical features described in his book and uses the same nickname as his book’s main character. He goes on on to claim that the main’s character best friend in Power, “Tommy,” has the same short fuse as the main character’s best friend in the book. Johnson’s main character in his book owns a nightclub in Atlanta. Power’s main character owns a nightclub in New York City.

The second season of Power was a huge success and turned out to be the most watched series on the Starz network. 50 Cent’s Starz drama Power finished its second season on Aug. 15 and broke the all-time ratings records for the premium cable network’s most popular original series on record. The television drama has already been renewed for a third season. Creator, executive producer and show runner Courtney Kemp Agboh alongside executive producers 50 Cent, Mark Canton, Randall Emmett and newly elevated Gary Lennon will all be back next season.
